NGC 6188 and NGC 6164-5
NGC 6188 is a colorful emission nebula located in the southern constellation Ara about 4000 light years away. It is known as the Rim Nebula, and is often called the Fighting Dragons of Ara due to the bright center part looking like two dragon heads facing each other. Only one dragon can be seen in this image.

The structure on the right of the image is NGC 6164-5 and is called the dragons egg. The star at the centre of NGC 6164-5 is a massive O type star about 40 times bigger than our sun. The star and is about four million years old. Such massive stars are shorter lived than other smaller star types and will most likely explode in a giant supernova in about two million years. Over its life it has been unstable and has undergone two explosive events forming the inner brighter nebula, and the outer more diffuse nebula. The diffuse nebula is normally blue which is not the case in this image. This may have been caused by the Optolong LeNhance filter I have used to photograph the structure not including much blue in its spectrum.
